Learn to Play Poker:
5 and 7 Card Stud

Seven-Card Stud

Seven-card stud significantly differs from Texas Holdem and Omaha because there are no community cards. All cards dealt are private and are not shared among players.

Every player is dealt three cards. Two of these cards are face-down and hidden to other players at the table. The third card is face-up and seen by everyone. The first round of betting follows. Then the fourth card is dealt face-up. The second round of betting follows. Then the fifth card is dealt face-up. The third round of betting follows. The sixth card is dealt face-up and the fourth round of betting follows. Finally, the last card is dealt face-down to each player. It is visible only to the player to whom it is dealt. The final round of betting follows.

After the final round of betting, at the "showdown", all players in the hand reveal their cards. The player with the best hand wins the pot.

Seven-Card Stud High/Low

Seven-card stud high/low plays the same way as seven-card stud except that the pot is split between the high hand and the low hand.

You should already be familiar with the idea of high hand, it is the best hand made.

As in omaha high/low, understanding the idea of the lowest hand is slightly trickier. The only cards allowed in a low hand are: A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. For example: 7, 2, 3, A, and 9 does not qualify as a "low hand", because of the 9.

Sometimes, no player will make a low hand. Consequently, the player with the high hand will scoop the pot.

Out of the seven cards dealt, the player is free to choose five different cards to make a high hand and five different cards to make a low hand. They do not have to be the same. The player with the high hand splits the pot with the player who has the low hand.

Five-Card Stud

Still in development...

Five-card stud is the oldest form of stud poker, and anybody can learn it in minutes!

Every player is dealt two cards, one private card and one card visible to other players. A round of betting follows. Then another visible card is dealt to each player. The second round of betting follows. Then the fourth visible card is dealt. The third round of betting follows. Finally, the fifth visible card is dealt and the final round of betting follows.

After the final round of betting, at the "showdown", all players in the hand reveal their hole card. The player with the best hand wins the pot.
